Places I’ve been quoted…
Here’s a brief list of places that I’ve been quoted:
Better Homes and Gardens did a story on hiking safety. I’m always happy when folks are willing to publish common sense safety advice and not hyperbole.
Big Bug Canyon News featured a story on a presentation I made to the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Aqua Fria National Monument. It was great to see so many energetic people, and I got a walking stick made from the spine of a saguaro cactus as thanks!
Fitness Magazine published a list of scenarios and how to deal with them while hiking.
Health and Fitness News published a story about hiking as a way to control bladder weakness. Don’t laugh. I suggested that “general fitness” was a more appropriate way to describe the effects of hiking, but bladder fitness was where they went.
The MARCIT Messenger, a healthcare insurance newsletter, published a story about trails and health.
This Michigan newspaper published a story about my efforts with American Hiking Society to pass the Omnibus Public Lands Management Act.
The National Wildlife Federation published a story featuring some volunteer trail maintenance work I’d done in the Steese National Conservation Area as a Crew Leader for an American Hiking Society Volunteer Vacation.
Natural Health published an article on some Leave No Trace tips I offered.
Ebony Magazine published an article with my tips on joining hiking clubs and hiking equipment. Because this issue featured Michelle Obama on the cover, several friends had the occasion to ask me, “Why are you quoted in Ebony Magazine?”
Yet another article linking hiking to increased bladder health. Go figure.
Readers Digest published an article featuring some of my hiking fitness advice. I was happy that such a widely read publication chose to feature hiking so prominently!
An industry publication – Recreation Management Magazine published an article on my work with the National Landscape Conservation System. It’s long, so rather than clobber you with the whole thing at once, here are the individual pages. – page 1 – page 2 – page 3 – page 4- page 5 – page 6.
The Associated Press published a story about my impression of “speed hiking.”
The Everett Herald published a story featuring my reactions to a tragic shooting of a hiker in Washington state.
The Grand Rapids Press and the blog Cleveland.com published stories quoting me on the passage of the Omnibus Public Lands Management Act.
My hometown newspaper, the Times Record, published a story about a local “outdoor chef” that won a contest I was judging. I did my best to get a word in edgewise about the importance of protecting local trails!
Viv Magazine, a great online magazine, published a story about a trails contest I promoted, featuring trails on BLM lands.
